Wild animals can be just as loving and loyal as family pets. They feel their human love and kindness for them, so they are happy to let them into their lives. Their humans have a special existence in their hearts, and these animals just want to protect them for as long as possible.
The raccoon saved by Little Hand in this story is no different. The kind and sweet boy was found alone on the side of the road when he was still very young. Only a few weeks old, the poor baby animal would probably have died had it not been rescued.
At that time, cases like Little Hands faced several scenarios. “Leave him and let nature take its course,” or ‘You can take him to a vet and they’ll have to euthanize him,’ says Nikki Robinson, who works in wildlife rehabilitation.
Thankfully, the little guy didn’t meet that end. Robinson took the baby raccoon and raised him until he was strong enough to return to the wild. He believed he deserved another chance.
Because Robinson was working full-time, she asked her mother, Linda, who was semi-retired, to help. Reluctant at first, Linda eventually becomes the raccoon’s foster mother. She could bottle-feed the animal five times a day.
Little Hands was rescued and adopted in early June, and by the end of the summer, the healthy boy was ready to kick himself out. He belonged here.
Surprisingly, Little Hands remained friendly with his human family, especially his mother, Linda. He has been back home to snuggle with his mom for 3 years.
The kind and sweet raccoon just wants to meet his sweet mommy and ask for hugs, belly rubs, and of course some of his favorite snacks.
“[My mom] has a porch swing where she sits outside, and he would come up and literally crawl on the swing and sit next to her and just want to scratch her butt and chin,” Robinson said. said. “He wanted his sieve, then he would eat his food and walk around.
Since leaving Little Hands’ home, Linda has adopted several orphaned and abandoned raccoon babies. But like children, they occasionally visit her home to be reunited with her.
“Every day, she sits outside and waits, and even when they’re older, they’ll visit her and she just lights up and she loves it,” Robinson said. “They love her too – she’s just mum.”
