We all love birthdays! Whether it’s our own birthday or the birthday of someone we love, a birthday is a special occasion that we all enjoy.
And animals are no different. After all, they deserve to be pampered on their special days too, right?
This adorable seal from the Cornish Seal Sanctuary is a perfect example of this. A rescued seal named Yulelogs recently turned 31 and was surprised with a giant ice cake to celebrate!
The cake was filled with fish, and the Yulelogs, could not contain their joy. Tender photos speak for themselves!
Yulelogs was rescued back in 1989 when he was still a tiny puppy. The marine park that saved him eventually closed and Yulelog was released back into the wild.
“However, after being in captivity for so long, he had no idea how to feed himself and was too used to people,” the Cornish Seal Sanctuary says on its website. “Three months after his release, Youlelogs was rescued by the RSPCA after he received calls from concerned members of the public saying he had been chasing people with buckets on the beach, believing they contained fish.”
As it turned out, when Yulelogs was rescued for the second time, he weighed in at only 132lb (60kg), rather than the standard 551lbs (250kg).
“It was apparent he needed care, so the RSPCA asked the Cornish Seal Sanctuary if they would provide a permanent home for him,” reads the website.
Now, at the ripe old age of 31, Yulelogs is a healthy, happy, and energetic seal, completely adored by everyone at the sanctuary.
And it turns out this birthday was quite a milestone for Yulelogs and his friends, as in the wild, a male grey seal tends to only live to around 25.
“Yulelogs absolutely loved his birthday cake,” Georgina Shannon, the marketing and media coordinator for the sanctuary, said.
“It’s a great form of enrichment for him also, as it requires a bit of thinking on how to get the fish out of the cake!”
Here’s how people reacted.
