We all know that dolphins are intelligent animals with an incredible ability to communicate with humans through verbal and non-verbal signals. But what if these smart creatures could be adorable at the same time? This is the story of a dolphin who went viral and melted thousands of hearts with his cuteness. Mystic, a 29-year-old humpback whale, has been seen offering visitors treasures he finds in the depths of the sea in exchange for food.
Whenever Barnacles Cafe & Dolphin Feeding Center (BCDF) staff come to visit him on the Cooloola Coast in Queensland, Mystic always appears with something in his face, including coral, shells, bottles, and wood. In return, they feed him tasty pieces of fish. It seems to know better than any other animal how to coexist with humans.
“He gets under it, [and] if he drops it too far or we say, ‘Come on, that’s not good enough,’ then he’ll get under it and bring it to us. We swear he has a collection waiting to be brought to us,” Lyn McPherson, the volunteer’s breadwinner, told ABC.
She added that the dolphin was not trained to do this, but he independently learned to interact with people during the COVID-19 quarantine. The charming Mystic is now known as a brilliant treasure hunter and a smart guy who always finds a way to get people’s attention.
Mystery was first spotted swimming with his mother and seven siblings on the Cooloola coast in 1991, according to BCDF volunteers.
He is the only one in his herd who can be recognized by his habit of looking for gifts. Another friend often accompanies him, but only to cash in on suspicious rewards. You won’t be able to confuse it with any other mammal because it is missing a piece of its dorsal fin due to a fight with a bull shark in 2007.
Employees love Mystique gifts and are always excited to receive new gifts in the future. Please like and share the adorable Mystique.
