Nick spent the day searching for Luna around St. Clement’s Island with Navy personnel after reporting his disappearance, but to no avail.

Unfortunately, Luna was thought to have drowned.

Five weeks later, staff at St. Clement’s Naval Auxiliary Landing Field spotted a dog sitting on the side of the road as they arrived for work.

This did not seem right because no domestic animals were allowed on the island, which shows that it was not an old wanderer, it was Luna!

“She was sitting there shaking her head,” said Sandy Damnick, the Navy’s public affairs officer.

Luna seemed to be able to swim to shore, and until she was rescued, she escaped rats and dead fish.
Despite suffering from poor nutrition, Luna was healthy and unharmed.
